      Ten years ago, our neighbors in Canada began a bold experiment. Under the banner of reducing costs, improving services and increasing efficiency, they imposed a consolidation of local governments. By now, the results are clear. None of the goals they had hoped to achieve have been realized. Instead, it essentially eliminated civic spirit and destroyed the community character of the old towns.

Unappy With Road Work
To the Editor,
      I am writing this letter to express my concerns about the ever-worsening conditions of the PennDOT-maintained roadways in Cameron County Over the previous years, PennDOT did a wonderful job. My job consists of traveling five days a week into Cameron County and I see every day how poorly the roads are cared for while the weather conditions are bad.

Supports PennDOT Efforts
      I am writing in regards to last week's letter to the editor concerning PennDOT. Since the fall of 2001 I have driven countless miles on the roads surrounding Emporium. For two years I drove to DuBois, the following two years to Bradford and now I drive to Coudersport on a regular basis.

The Enemy Within
To the editor:
      Today our national sovereignty is being attacked. Illegal immigration poses a survival threat by dismantling our social, economic, cultural, and legal foundations. It may well be a greater threat than terrorism, because the media portrays it as an issue of social conscience. Each time we stand silent when illegal immigrants are seen as victims, we take a step closer to national chaos.

Bush Went Too Far

      The current Iraq fiasco and President Bush's reluctance to admit the reality of his great blunder is proof that no one man, no matter his motives, should have so much power over life and death. Bush's decisions have cost the lives of many Americans and the poor people of Iraq.
