Morley, Heimel first to make bid for commission seat official
      Two candidates are in, a third is set to announce, and several more are likely to join in as the race for three seats on the Potter County Board of Commissioners kicks off next week. Incumbent Catherine Bowers, a Democrat, said Tuesday she'll make a formal announcement of her intention to seek re-election in the coming days.

      Heimel said he's basing his campaign on three fundamental principles: fiscal responsibility; effective advocacy for Potter County with regional, state and federal agencies; and improved communications. "I am passionate about Potter County," he said.

Advance tickets available for comedy show
      Advance tickets are on sale for the Saturday, Feb. 17, "Evening of Stand-Up Comedy" at American Legion Post 192 in Coudersport. Two headliners from Comedy Blast Inc., Mike Milton and Larry DeFelice, will perform during a fund-raiser for the Coudersport Arboretum and the Post 192 Military Veterans Wall of Honor.

He does it for the rush!
      "I love that adrenaline rush of making people laugh," comic Larry DeFelice told Endeavor News. "When someone comes up to me after a show and says, 'I've needed a good laugh for a long time; thank you,' then I feel great." DeFelice has performed his unique brand of comedy everywhere from national TV studios to tiny pubs.

Verizon building, tower being proposed
      Members of the Coudersport Zoning Hearing Board are being asked to approve a variance that would allow construction of a 100-foot-high telecommunications tower and a small building on a Vine Street lot. Verizon Wireless is seeking the variance for non-conforming use of a vacant lot located near the Calvary Baptist Church.

      Rehearsals are well underway, characters are taking shape and the cast is working hard for the local production of "Annie Get Your Gun," presented by the Coudersport High School Drama Department on two nights, March 2-3.

Ed Council computer classes ongoing
      Potter County Education Council is sponsoring computer classes at its Coudersport office. Classes for February and March include the basics of Microsoft Office Suite, geared toward the beginning computer user or anyone who wants a refresher. Aging agency plans fund-raiser February 18
      Potter County Area Agency on Aging staffers will wait on tables and otherwise help wih a chicken and biscuit dinner to be held as a fund-raiser for the county's senior centers in Galeton, Coudersport, Ulysses and Shinglehouse. The event will be held at the Hotel Crittenden on Sunday, Feb. 18, from noon to 2:30 p.m.

Plans developing for Irish dinner
      Austin United Methodist Church will hold an Irish Dinner, complete with live music, on Saint Patrick's Day, March 17. Serving is from 5:00 p.m. until 6:30, followed by a performance by Confluence starting at 7:00. The performers are Nadine Dyskant-Miller, who specializes in the flute and foot percussion, and her mother, Barbara Dyskant on piano.

Austin dinner auction March 15
      A dinner-auction for the E. O. Austin Home/Historical Society will be held on March 15 at American Legion Post 192 in Coudersport. A limited number of tickets are available to the public at Northwest Savings Bank in Austin. Anyone who would like to donate an item to be auctioned may take it to the bank.
