Falcon girls start playoffs next week
      <!-- Page Number: 9--> Perennial powerhouse Smethport gave the young Coudersport High School softball team a preview of the kind of competition it will face in the upcoming PIAA District 9 playoffs. The Falcon girls are heading to Elk County Catholic next Wednesday afternoon for a 4:30 game that's part of the D9 quarterfinals. The winner advances to the semifinals, while the loser is eliminated.

Falcons return to baseball playoffs
      <!-- Page Number: 9--> If there is a dark horse in the crowded PIAA District 9 baseball playoff field, it has to be Coudersport. Coach Doug McClintic's Falcons barely slipped into the hunt when school officials agreed to enter the playoffs with a .500 record (7-7). McClintic says his team has been building some momentum in recent weeks and could be a spoiler.

Raiders begin title defense Thursday

Coach Dick Harrier's Red Raiders (12-3), seeded fourth among 12 teams in the tournament, will host either Coudersport or Curwensville Thursday at 4:30.

Vince Marzo had three hits, Brett Whitman cracked a tworun homer, Dillon Wadsworth had a pair of hits and Luke Ditzler doubled to lead an 11- hit Purple attack. Whitman, Wadsworth and Kevin Wolfinger shared mound duties.

Paul Baker and Ryan Bresslin homered for Emporium, while Kevin Gledhill and Kyle Gledhill each pounded five hits, but the hosts got to starter Ralph McKimm Jr.
