Girls' basketball camp planned
      A two-day camp for girls' basketball players entering grades five through eight will be held next week in DuBois, under the direction of Cameron County's Pat Lewis. Camp will run from 9:00 a.m. to noon on Wednesday and Thursday at the YMCA. More information is available from Coach Lewis at 486-0615.

Dirk Cowburn wins national championship
      Coudersport wrestler Dirk Cowburn polished off a brutal 18-match endurance test to win a national championship in one division and finish as a national runner-up in another. He earned the honors during the 2007 USA Wrestling finals this week at Fargo, N. D.

Potter-McKean girls are Dist. 15 champs!
      A group of 9- and 10-yearold softball players from several Potter and McKean County communities are continuing an odyssey that began almost a month ago when the Little League playoffs opened across the state. Potter-McKean nailed down the Pa. District 15 championship Wednesday night at Austin, knocking off Northeast Bradford County, 9-2.

Basketball almost year-'round sport for these girls
      Basketball is not just a winter sport. At Coudersport, girls' varsity coach Brian Green has spent much of the summer ushering teams to competiton in Pennsylvania and New York State. Several of the coming season's Falcons earned a hardfought championship last week during the very competitive Houghton College (N.Y.) Tournament. Coudersport beat a strong Pioneer, N.Y.

P-M 11-year-olds District Champs!
      A group of 11-year-old baseball players from Potter and McKean counties continues along the trail that eventually leads to the Little League World Series. Potter-McKean earned the Pa. District 15 championship with a 15-5 win at Shinglehouse Saturday over Susquehanna County. Ethan Hite was the winning pitcher.

Emporium Country Club: putting some 'green' into community
      Emporium Country Club (ECC) provides the area with far more than golf. For starters, the club brings in an average of more than $200,000 in out-of-county revenue from golf fees. That's based on upwards of 20,000 rounds of golf during the regular season. Last month alone, the club sold about 1,150 rounds of golf to non-locals, as well as 1,740 to members.

      "Houdini" is still doing his magical tricks for the professional baseball team in Somerset, N. J. Saul Solveson, 27-year-old pitcher from Emporium, was one of eight Somerset Patriots chosen for the Atlantic League All-Star Team.
