'It's our right'
      To the editor: Whether you are for or against the consolidation of Cameron County, it is unacceptable for an elected official to vote against allowing the referendum to appear on the November ballot. It is the right of the people to make this extremely important decision themselves.

Residents have right to vote
      To the editor: One of the questions concerning the consolidation effort has been, "How will this help the residents in the entire county by having a single government working out of the courthouse?" First, it unites our thinking and concern for the entire community of Cameron County and its people. Secondly, it has representation for all areas at this location.

      To the editor: The elected township and borough officials of Cameron County have been asked by the county commissions to pass an ordinance authorizing a referendum on the consolidation of all of Cameron County's municipalities and the adoption of a Home Rule Charter.

      To the editor: Road rage is on the rise, increasing seven percent every year, according to auto industry analysts. An overcrowded roadway can lead to aggressive behavior. If you are being challenged on the road, keep a cool head. Give yourself plenty of time to get to your destination.

Toward energy independence
      To the editor: Pennsylvania is taking several steps toward energy independence. House Bill 1200 would expand the Pa. Economic Development Authority, and encourage energy efficiency and conservation and local alternative energy production through rebates, grants, loans, and other incentives.

Through An 'Old Timer's' Eyes
      Our nation is rich in history. Just about everywhere you go, there is a historic marker. On the east end of Emporium, where Pa. Rt. 155 begins, marker notes the Allegheny Portage. Few people probably are aware of this site, which began the 23-mile crossing from the Susquehanna West Branch to the Allegheny River.
