      Near where I live the white oak acorns have begun to drop. Even before I personally saw the acorns, I knew they were beginning to drop. The turkeys told me. Last week I was watching a flock of turkeys feeding through a field, chasing grasshoppers and bugs in a seemingly haphazard manner.

Police mum on shooting of big buck
      State police and officers from the Pa. Game Commission have not released details on the poaching of a large antlered deer near Sizerville Road, north of Emporium,last Saturday night. "The investigation is continuing and there is no information to release at this time," said a spokesman. at the state police barracks in Emporium on Thursday.

Disease killing deer in southwestern part of state
      An insect-borne virus has killed several hundred deer in Greene, Washington, Beaver and Allegheny counties, according to the Game Commission. Tests confirmed that the deer died since early August of epizootic hemorrhagic disease, said Dr. Walter Cottrell, wildlife veterinarian for the state Game Commission.
