'Dry-Land' racing returns to Sinnemahoning State Park
      Sled dog racing returns to Sinnemahoning State Park in Cameron and Potter counties this weekend. At least three dozen racers from several states will compete in the second annual Canadian- American Sledders Dry- Land Event. Park off icials have added several activites to make the weekend a family affair with fun for all ages.

Snowmobile 'grass drags' Saturday
      Snowmobilers will go head to head for cash prizes during the first Bailey Hill Classic Grass Drags on Saturday afternoon. At least 35 racers are expected to compete on a certified grass drag course at Bailey Hill Lodge, between Coudersport and Ulysses. Spectators are welcome to attend. Racing gets underway at 3 p.m.

Bird Watchers' Paradise
      Recently I had a chance to travel with a local group to Mexico. I decided to stay two extra days to visit the Ria Celestun Biosphere Reserve. It's located on the Gulf of Mexico on the northwest coast of the Yucatan Peninsula. It is centered on the productive Celestun estuary, an incredible waterfowl sanctuary. The main attraction is its American flamingo population.

Bear season draws closer
      A thriving black bear population awaits hunters in northcentral Pennsylvania this year. "Our bear hunting should be excellent," said Mark Fair, the Pa. Game Commission wildlife conservation officer whose district covers Cameron and McKean counties.

Donate venison to the needy
      With the firearms deer season drawing closer, a statewide organization that encourages deer hunters to donate venison to the needy is looking for volunteers in Cameron and Potter counties. Under the "Hunters Sharing the Harvest" program, meat is donated to families, as well as churches, food banks and social service organizations.

Turkey season underway
      Wild turkeys remain legal game in all of northcentral Pennsylvania through Nov. 17. Turkey populations in Management Area 2G, covering all of Cameron County and the southern half of Potter County, are much higher than last year.
