New pastor for Presbyterians, Lutherans
      A shared ministry arrangement is now in place between two Protestant congregations in Coudersport. The Rev. Evon Lloyd McJunkin has accepted the joint ministry for the First United Presbyterian Church and the St. Paul's Lutheran Church. Both congregations approved the plan earlier this month.

     Cameron County High School graduate Seth Bickford plays the lead role in "Uncle Vanya" this weekend on the Pitt-Bradford campus. It's a comedy about frustrated characters chasing impossible love and living in the same household. Uncle Vanya will be performed at 7:30 p.m. Friday and Saturday, with a matinee at 2 p.m. Sunday at Blaisdell Hall. Tickets are $6 for the public and $2 for students. They are available at the door.

      (Paul Gordon of Coudersport was a featured speaker during a Veterans Day program held on Monday at Coudersport High School. He discussed his experiences with journalist Paul W. Heimel.) The horror of the 1942 bombing raid over the Germanoccupied French city of Lille came back to him with a jarring clarity.

      Cameron County Christian Center is offering residents of the Emporium and Austin areas reduced-priced food through Angel Food Ministries. The program allows area residents to save money on their grocery bills.

     Austin Area School sent a team to State College recently to participate in WPSUTV's popular "Scholastic Scrimmage" competition. EVFD plans 'Night of Comedy'
      Emporium Volunteer Fire Department will partner with Comedy Blast Inc. to present a "Night of Comedy" on Saturday, Nov. 24, at the Emporium Moose Lodge. The two-hour show is described as "adult entertainment" Admission will be limited to those 18 or older.

Will vie for Pa. Outstanding Young Woman
      Coudersport High School senior Melissa Gerner is one of 18 finalists for the title of Pennsylvania Outstanding Young Woman. The daughter of Paul and Nancy Gerner, Melissa will travel to Kutztown on Saturday, Nov. 24, to compete for the statewide title and a scholarship award.

     Temporary office trailers brought to Vine Street in Coudersport during the late 1990s to help accommodate Adelphia's rapid growth are being dismantled and moved out. The situation is repeating itself at other Coudersport area properties. Land on which the modular offices sit is being sold by the Adelphia estate to pay off creditors as the company closes out its five-year-long Chapter 11 bankruptcy proceedings. 'Rhapsody of Christmas' concert Dec. 9
      North Country Voices will present their annual holiday concert, "Rhapsody of Christmas," at 3 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 9, at the First United Presbyterian Church in Coudersport. "This program will offer strong messages of hope, peace, love and joy," said Gloria Richardson, choral director. "Lift your spirits and warm your hearts as we celebrate in song this joyous time of year.

State police plan safety seat checks
      Pa. State Police from the Denton Hill barracks are sponsoring a child safety seat checkpoint on Tuesday. Goal is to increase safety belt/child safety seat use. The checkpoint will be held from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. at the barracks. Participants should bring their child safety seat, vehicle manual and safety seat instructions.

     Woody and Karen Mitman from the Dutch Hill area, near Coudersport, were impressed with the quality and variety of exhibits during the quilt show at the John White Second Street Gallery. The show was part of the Coudersport Holiday Kickoff. Coudersport Area Chamber of Commerce Merchants Group sponsored the event, which also included an open house at the Christmas House and special bargains by local businesses. The quilt show will continue through next week at the studio, located across from the courthouse.

Austin embraces new age of education
      Austin Area School District recently received a $59,000 state grant to help pay for 57 student laptops, four teacher laptops, three interactive white boards, digital video cameras, and digital cameras.
