Hunter bags 176 lb. buck

A steady downpour and dense fog harassed hunters and kept deer harvest figures down on the opening day of the state's two-week rifle deer season. But when conditions improved Tuesday, hunters took some incredible deer. Cody Housler, an Austin hunter, was among those who found success when the weather cleared Tuesday. He shot this 11-point on Cowley Hill at mid-day. The 176-pound buck is still holding down the second place spot in the Big Woods Whitetail Classic contest, which continues through season's end at the Beef & Ale House in Coudersport. Sportsmen who get a buck are encouraged to register their deer, no matter what size it is, for a chance to win prizes in drawings to be held at season's end. To enter your deer, bring it to the check station all day Saturdays or between the hours of 5 p.m. and 8 p.m. during the week. Watch Endeavor News in coming weeks for more photos from the event and, ultimately, a full-color buck roster, due out in January.
