Austin Junior Girl Scouts have sent dozens of cards, posters, personal items and Christmas cards to service members since last summer as part of the Letters From Home Program. The girls were recently thrilled to be on the receiving end of the mail chain. A large number of cards and letters arrived at the Austin Post Office from soldiers in Iraq and Kuwait who had received their care packages over the holidays. The girls also received a certificate of appreciation from Charlie Company, 2nd Brigade Special Troops Battalion - 10th Mountain Division. The Scouts are now filling care packages and making cards and posters for an April mailing. Anyone wishing to donate should call 647-5561 or 647-8790, or drop off items at the Austin Firehall on Wednesday evenings from 6:00 to 8:00. The campaign is entitled "Show Us Your True Colors." Patriotic items, photos, posters, and cards (including Valentines and Easter themes) are welcome before April 19. Chocolates or glitter cannot be accepted. Shown, left to right, are: front -- Kate Jeffers, Kaylee Brooks and Charlotte Chance; back -- Nicole Smith, Mia Glover and Rachel Jeffers.
