Roads open (now we need snow)

Although the winter of 2006- 07 has seen almost no snow, officials from the Elk State Forest District are prepared to welcome snowmobilers on approximately 100 miles of forestry roads and trails opened up specifically for them.

Here are the roads and trails will be open for snowmobiles as conditions permit: Austin Cut-Off Log Road, Bauer Hollow Road to Steammill Road, Brooks Run Fire Tower Road, Brooks Run Road (above Ranger House), Fox Mountain Tower Road, Fee Hollow Road, East Cowley Run Road, Pepper Hill Road, and North Fork Log Road.

The following roads and trails will be open for joint use by snowmobiles and licensed motor vehicles: Brooks Run Road (from Rt. 872 to the Ranger House), Ridge Road, Steammill Road, Crooked Run Road, Portage Road, Hunts Run Road (on State Forest Lands at the County Line to Ridge Road), Whitehead Road, Stillhouse Road, Montours Run Road from Rock Run to Short bend, Naval Hollow Road, Straight Creek Road, Homewood Camp Road and Wildwood Tower Road.
