Hunt for school head still on Members of the Cameron County Area Board of Education are taking their time in hiring what most people see as the most critical position at any school district- superintendent. Board members have discussed the issue in private session and, most recently, voted publicly to extend the term of Clyde Moate as interim superintendent while the search continues. Dr. Stephen Bugaj resigned last August and Moate was named acting superintendent. The school board's decision to keep him in that capacity through Dec. 31, 2007, if necessary, is subject to Pa. Dept. of Education approval in the form of a waiver. In other business, the school board ended months of speculation by voting to retain Tony Defilippi as head varsity football coach and John Barnhart, Steve Zoschg and Brian Lovett as his assistants for the 2007 season. Also returning for the 2007 season will be veteran coach John Fragale for junior high football, with Jason Sloppy and Jeremiah Fragale as assistants. Amy Schwab will return as head volleyball coach and Pam Burt as assistant coach. Kathi Osti will be back as head coach for junior high volleyball, assisted by Dave Osti. Board members voted 5-4 not to retain another veteran coach, Pat Lewis, for the girls' golf team, despite positive recommendations by High School Principal Myron Crumrine and Athletic Director Don Sestina. Tom Glosek will return as boys' golf coach. |
