Falcon wrestlers off to tournament

Rich Keagle
Coudersport's wrestlers will be tested during the highly competitive North East Tournament Friday night and Saturday in Erie.

They have another tough challenge next Thursday night at Kane.

The Falcons are coming off a 58-18 Tuesday night loss at Oswayo Valley. Their lone bright spots were an impressive third-period pin by sophomore Rich Keagle at 189 lbs. and a determined effort by senior Sean Davis (140), who earned a fall at the 3:10 mark.

"I was real pleased with the way Rich Keagle fought back and won after five minutes of work," said Falcon coach Thad Taylor.

Undefeated freshman Dirk Cowburn (17-0) was awarded a forfeit at 145. Junior Steve White (15-5) went the distance with undefeated Zeke Drake at 160 before losing a major decision.

Last Friday, Port Allegany came to Coudersport and claimed a 58-12 win in a match shortened by seven forfeits. Cowburn held off a pesky Jeff Jones for a 5-1 win.

The real crowd-pleaser was White's win over Chad Saltsman -- a triple-overtime rideout. Heavyweight Kyle Collins was awarded a win by forfeit.
