Mary Lee Uber presented an update on autism during a recent meeting of Emporium Rotary Club. Autism strikes about one of every 100 people, including 4 million Americans. Uber said Congress recently passed the Combating Autism Act, which provides $860 million for research. One of her major goals is an all-inclusive playground for autistics and children with any kind of disability. A car wash will be held in late April, which is Autism Awareness Month, to raise money for the facility. The speaker is shown with program chair Barb Smith. Other guests were Renee Laychur, chief investment officer for Omega Bank, and Judy Galsick, new youth director at Cameron County's CareerLink. Tickets for the wine and cheese affair are now available from Connie Garrigan or from any Rotarian. | | Photo courtesy of Georgiann Holly |
