They're gunning for us'

"We know that everybody's gunning for us," said Coudersport coach Brian Green, after his Falcons rode tenacious defense to a 50-19 Northern Tier Girls' Basketball League win over visiting Smethport Thursday night.

"As the unbeaten streak continues (17-0), several teams would like to be the first one to knock us off, so we're going to be getting the best that they have," Green added. "We saw that at Otto-Eldred the other night, when we barely escaped from the 'Terror Dome' with a win."

Thursday's win came easier, as cold-shooting Smethport

13-5) struggled without point guard Diana Phalon, who is shelved with a wrist injury. Coudersport also had trouble scoring until the fourth quarter, when the Falcons rattled off 20 unanswered points. Kristy Kamper had 11 steals to go with her game-high 15 points.

Also on Thursday, Cameron County (7-11) fell behind by 10 points in the second quarter and dropped a 43-28 decision at Otto-Eldred (8-10). Austin (12- 5) got 23 points from Rayna Valenti and 12 from Casey Boucher in a 58-30 win at Port Allegany (5-13).

On Monday night, Otto- Eldred came back from an early 14-4 deficit to make things interesting, Coudersport held on for a 41-36 win. Kamper (17) and Hope Morris (10) carried the Falcon offense.

Cameron County fell victim to a barrage of three-pointers in a 60-45 loss at Smethport. Kristin Sestina scored 14 points and Jess Ellenberger nine for the Raiders.

Whitney Crosby poured in 24 points and Valenti 19 in Austin's 60-36 win at Oswayo Valley.

League Standings

Coudersport 8-0, Northern Potter 7-1, Smethport 5-3, Austin 5- 3, Cameron County 3-5, Port Allegany 2-6, Otto-Eldred 2-6, Oswayo Valley 0-8.

Tuesday's games: Coudersport at Austin, Port Allegany at Cameron County, Northern Potter at Smethport, Otto-Eldred at Oswayo Valley.

Friday's games: Oswayo Valley at Coudersport, Cameron County at Northern Potter, Austin at Otto-Eldred, Smethport at Port Allegany.
