CCHS wrestlers off to Bucktail Tournament

Chad Schatz
Cameron County's wrestlers spent more time in the bus than they did on the mat Tuesday night, coming away from Sheffield with a 64-6 win that was shortened to six bouts lasting less than 20 minutes.

Randy Schatz got things going for the Red Raiders with a 10-2 decision over Larry Heeter at 145. Mike Baker had a pin in 62 seconds at 171. Matt Burke dropped his opponent in just 25 seconds at 215.

Later, youngsters Dom Manginell (119) and Bryce Frey (130) recorded pins in 5:00 and 0:26, respectively.

Hunter Bardo, Tyler Songer, Chad Schatz, Tyler Bidwell and Brock Belkowski were awarded forefit wins.

Last Thursday, a talented Port Allegany team came away from Emporium with a 52-20 triumph. The Red Raiders surrendered 24 points via forfeits, while the Gators opted to forfeit 285 to Chad Schatz.

Despite the score, there were some bright spots for the hosts. Baker held strong to win on a 6-5 rideout over Chad Saltsman at 160. Songer dominated his opponent at 152 for a 20-5 technical fall. Randy Schatz needed exactly one minute to pin his foe at 140.

Cameron County heads to the Bucktail Tournament on Saturday, then hosts a depleted Coudersport team next Thursday.
