CHS girls' win streak snapped at 20

Coudersport's win streak in girls' basketball was snapped at 20 Wednesday night, as the Falcons traveled to Bradford for a playoff-caliber tune-up against a strong Owls team.

For once, the Falcons' vaunted defense failed to rattle an opponent's point guard, as Bradford claimed a 45-37 win to drop Coudersport to 20-1.

"Our bread and butter is forcing the point guard to turn over the ball," said Coudersport coach Brian Green. "Nikki Siffrin was able to handle the pressure."

The Falcons saw a 23-21 lead disappear late in the third quarter and hit a cold streak from the floor. They pulled back to within two points, but faded down the stretch. Jessica Wilson scored 17 points and Kristy Kamper nine for the Falcons.

A win over visiting Northern Potter on Friday night would clinch another Northern Tier League championship for Coudersport.

Hot shooting Tuesday night at Emporium helped the Falcons roll past Cameron County, 58-32. Karli Duffee led the charge as Coudersport buried seven three-pointers in the first half to take a 35-15 lead at the break.

"Coudersport just shot the lights out," said Cameron County coach Pat Lewis. "They hit every open look that they had."

Duffee (12), Kamper (12), Kelly McVay (10) and Wilson (10) anchored the Falcon scoring.

Kristin Sestina (11 rebounds), Whitney Lewis and Shelby Summers each had eight tallies for the Raiders (8- 13).

Also on Tuesday, Coudersport got some help in Austin during a battle of Panthers, with the hosts defeating Northern Potter, 48- 31.

"We played strong defense and controlled the defensive boards," said Austin coach Dick Logue. "We were also patient and selective on offense."

Rayna Valenti scored 17 points, while Whitney Crosby had 10 rebounds and 11 points for Austin (13-7). Casey Boucher chipped in with 11 points and five assists. Lisa Fowler pulled down 10 rebounds. Ashley Kio finished with four steals, four assists and seven rebounds.

Last Friday, Cameron County hung close to Northern Potter (16-5) before the Panthers roared in the fourth quarter on their way to a 57-34 win. Bethany Dunsmore (11) led the Red Raider offense.

Coudersport's bench received considerable playing time in the Falcons' 59-27 win over Oswayo Valley. Austin fell to Otto-Eldred (10-10), 52-45, despite Valenti's 19 points.
