Remember Y2K? There's a similar situation on the horizon that makes March 11 an important date to computer users. In August 2005, Congress passed the Energy Policy Act, which changes the dates of both the start and end of daylight saving time. This year, DST moves from April 1 to March 11. Many computers are already programmed to make the time change on April 1, so they'll have to be manually adjusted.

Upwards of 100 old, tall trees will be coming down in Smethport in the coming months, while a similar number of new trees are planted. Borough officials hope to use federal funds through a Community Development Block Grant to pay for removal of the large trees, mostly maples, and replace them. The trees are showing signs of stress and are considered a safety hazard.

57.2 Philadelphia may ban trans fats in most dishes served in restaurants beginning in the fall. In January 2007, the Pa. Medical Society conducted a poll on trans fats. Respondents were asked: "New York City recently banned trans fats in restaurants.

Should Pennsylvania do the same?" Results were: yes, 57.2%; no, 24.2%; not sure, 18.5%. They were also asked, "Do you feel you know what trans fats are, why they are bad for your health, and what foods they are found in?" Results were: yes, 64.2%; no, 12.5%; not sure, 22.2%.
