Wind Plant Foes Mislead Public
To the editor:

I attended the recent meeting held at the Potter County Courthouse concerning the wind farm proposed for our area. As I sat through the slide show, video, model demonstration, and comments, I couldn't help but be disgusted.

I appreciate that people have different opinions on this matter, but that doesn't excuse what happened that night.

In order to try to convince our citizens to come over to their side, Save God's Country (SGC) members stooped to misleading, omitting, and outright lying. This is an insult to our intelligence.

I encourage people to do their own research, but don't believe everything you find on the Internet. One must look further into the facts and decide for oneself. If you do this, you will find that SGC has it wrong.

There are 13,000 acres leased, but only to four to six acres are clear-cut per tower, plus right-of-way connecting each. This will not "destroy" 13,000 acres.

There will be no white strobes on the turbines, as they are not required on white towers. The red lights will be on the ends of each line and spaced out in-between, as per FAA requirements, not on every tower.

Potter County will receive a significant tax revenue from the wind turbines in the sixfigure range.

The "pollution credits" argument SGC throws around don't apply. The U.S. is not a signatory of the treaty allowing such credits.

These are just a few of the things that SGC is wrong about. It's okay to have opinions but don't call them facts and expect us to believe it. The fine citizens of Potter County deserve an apology.
