Ruins of the Bayless Pulp & Paper Company dam, which gave way in 1911, formed the backdrop for a recent inspirational cross-country skiing trip by Tracie Gordnier, president of the Austin Dam Memorial Association, and friend. Directly above, a small stream coils its way through two feet of snow to the base of the ruins. Meanwhile, the lone skier's tracks can be made out behind the headline and body of the lead story.
