Local 'Living Well Week' observance

The Penn State Cooperative Extension office serving Cameron and Potter counties, is observing Living Well Week (March 11-17) with a public relations campaign.

Extension Educator Robin Kuleck suggests that parents use the occasion to concentrate on their families' eating and spending habits as well as wise use of leisure time.

"Kids don't really need the latest video game or highpriced electronics," Kuleck advised. "Kids need their parents or another committed adult. Being active in your child's or teen's life will help her or him to succeed and it will give your family memories that will last for years to come."

She also said responsible eating is a challenge when organizations and the media send mixed messages on safety and nutrition.

"Eating right isn't about fads - it's about preparing meals and snacks that are healthy and appealing," Kuleck said.

Money management is another challenging part of living well.

"Whether you're saving for something special or paying down credit cards, every penny counts," Kuleck advised. "Even small savings can make your money work for you."

Cooperative Extension has resources available for anyone looking to improve living skills. Call 776-5331 for more information.
