Beda Langevin

Beda A. Langevin, 94, of Driftwood, formerly of Charlemont, Mass. died Wednesday (Feb. 21, 2007) at Elk Regional Health Center, St. Marys.

She was born Oct. 14, 1912 in Ashfield, a daughter of the late Bernard W. and Emma Johnson Anderson.

On June 19, 1943 in Ashfield, Mass. she married Harold J. Langevin.

Mrs. Langevin made her home with her granddaughter Beda "Lee" Oyler and her husband Jeff in Castle Garden (Driftwood) since 2004. She graduated from Sanderson Academy High School in Ashfield and then New Hampshire University. She then trained and taught at Clark School for the Deaf in Northampton, Mass. She eventually retired from the Montague School District. She was also Town Clerk, Town Treasurer and became a selectman in Charlemont. She was involved with the Wells Fund, 4-H, Women's club, was a founding member of the local Mass Lioness Club and served with many other organizations.

Surviving are one daughter, Charlotte Bennett of Freehold, N.J.; one step-daughter, Lorraine (Mrs. Armand) St. Pierre, Bath, N.Y.; three grandchildren, Beda "Lee" (Jeff) Oyler of Castle Garden, Howard Dale Bennett III, Connecticut, and David Allen Bennett, Massachusetts; five step grandchildren; three great grandchildren, Krystal A. Oyler, David A. Bennett, Jr. and Jeffery E. Oyler.

Mrs. Langevin was preceded in death by her parents, husband, one grandson, Joseph A. Valerio, III; five brothers, Ralph, George, Herman, Raymnond and Leroy Anderson; two sisters, Alice and Esther Anderson and step grandson, Armand St. Pierre Jr.

A funeral service was held at the Barnett Funeral Home with Rev. Dwight Simpson, pastor, Down County Baptist Church, officiating.

Burial was in the Plain Cemetery, Ashfield.
