Thetis Hauber

Thetis Sheldon Hauber, formerly of Coudersport, died Tuesday (Feb. 13, 2007) at her home in Mesa, Ariz.

Mrs. Hauber was a visible presence in Coudersport for many years, active in community organizations and outspoken on public and spiritual issues.

She was born Jan. 7, 1913, in Miami, Fla., the daughter of A. Jay Sheldon and Thetis Petty Sheldon. She was married to long-time Coudersport jeweler F. Willard Hauber, who preceded her in death.

A graduate of Willsboro (N.Y.) High School, she earned a bachelor of arts degree from the University of New Hampshire in 1935.

Mrs. Hauber arrived in Coudersport during the 1960s along with her son, Adrian Jay, and daughter, Elise. Her parents also took up residence in Coudersport in their later years.

They were influential members of the community. Mrs. Hauber often wrote letters to the editor or newspaper advertisements commenting on public issues.

She was a member of Potter County Hospice, the Potter- Tioga Maple Festival Committee, and Friends of the Court. In the latter role, she mentored at-risk youth.

Survivors include her daughter Elise (Tom) Lyon of Mesa; son Adrian Jay (Donna) Pinsince of Milford, Ct.; also two stepsons, David Hauber of Coudersport and John Hauber of Rochester, N.Y.; 11 grandchildren and three greatgrandchildren.

The family has scheduled a Celebration of the Life of Thetis Hauber for Aug. 12, 2007, in Coudersport.

Memorial donations may be made to Potter County Hospice or to the Coudersport Volunteer Fire Department.
