Grant awarded for food, shelter

Cameron County has been awarded a $8,000 federal grant to supplement emergency food and shelter programs.

Distribution to local service organizations will be determined by a local board made up of the Cameron County Assistance Office, American Red Cross, Cameron County Commissioners, Salvation Army, Northern Tier Community Action Corp. (NTCAC) and United Way.

Previous funds have been distributed to Cameron County Food Pantry, Catholic Charities and NTCAC. During the past year, these agencies have provided 3,394 meals and handled six energy assistance and seven rental assistance cases.

Applications for portions of the $8,000 grant are due by March 31. For additional information, contact Ken Straub at 486-1161.
