J. Boyd Jestes

J. Boyd Jestes, 87, of Card Creek Road, died Sunday (March 4, 2007) in the Charles Cole Memorial Hospital.

Born Feb. 9, 1920, in Watauga County, N.C., he was a son of Jesse W. and Rose Byrd Jestes. On Nov. 1, 1941, in Burtville, he married G. Velma Baker, who survives.

Mr. Jestes was a selfemployed building contractor and taught at the Seneca Highlands Vo-Tech School in Port Allegany before his retirement.

He was a resident of the area for 72 years. He was a graduate of the Roulette High School, Class of 1939.

He was a member of the Sartwell Creek Union Church, Burtville, where he was on the board of trustees and had taught Sunday School. He was a member of the F&AM Eulalia Lodge #3342, Coudersport; a life member of the Coudersport Consistory; and a former director of Potter County Conservation District, Potter County Housing Authority and the Port Allegany Board of Education. He also served on the Potter County Board of Commissioners.

Surviving in addition to his wife, are two sons, Chad N. (Jill) Jestes of Kalkaska, Mich., and Brian B. (Ljuba) Jestes of Newport, Mich.; a daughter, Marilyn G. Jestes of Roulette; four grandsons; two step grandchildren; a brother, Ned W. Jestes of Banner Elk, N.C.; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Mead F. Jestes; and two sisters, G. Iola Baker and Cloma Potter.

Funeral services were held in the Sartwell Creek Union Church, Burtville, with the Rev. LaVerne Howard, pastor, officiating.

Burial was in Card Creek Cemetery, Roulette. Memorials may be made to the Sartwell Creek Union Church or Card Creek Cemetery Association.
