Chip carving workshop

Experienced carver Mahlon Davenport will present a fourclass chip carving workshop in Port Allegany. Chip carving is conducted on a flat or curved wood surface. Finished pieces can stand alone as a plaque or plate, or embellish a box, clock, mantle, frame, door or any woodwork.

The $50 fee includes the four two-hour classes, practice wood, patterns, transfer paper, tracing paper, and tape. Tools students will need include a chip carving knife, pencil, ballpoint pen, ruler, compass, and hard eraser. Other useful tools include sandpaper, honing stone, sealer, stain, and finish.

Examples of chip carving designs are on display at the Port Allegany Education Center office, 8 North Main Street. Classes will be held from 7:00 to 9:00 on Thursday nights: March 22, March 29, April 5 and April 12. For more info or to register call the Potter County Education Council at 642-2295 or 274-4877.
