Jobless rate inching higher

About six percent of adults in Cameron and Potter counties are actively seeking jobs, according to the latest report from the Pa. Labor Department.

Potter County's jobless rate edged up to 6.1% in February. About 200 county residents who lost their jobs when Time Warner shut down two customer centers were added to the ranks of the unemployed.

Hidden behind the 6.1% figure are dozens of former Adelphia employees who are no longer counted in the state tally because they exhausted their 26 weeks of unemployment compensation during February.

Cameron County's unemployment rate of 5.8% for February continues to hover above the statewide (4.7%) and national (4.6%) averages.
