Austin celebrates '06 baseball successes
Austin Baseball Association held its awards presentation for the 2006 season on Sunday at the school. Nearly 75 players, coaches and parents attended. Outgoing association president Bill Walker was emcee.
The Felicia VanWhy Memorial Award was presented by Mark VanWhy, in memory of his wife, to Cheyenne Kio, for the Girls Little League Softball Team (photo bottom, left).
Kenny Walker Memorial Award, now in its 22nd year, went to Patrick Valenti (photo bottom, right). It was presented by coach Kurt Logue (left), manager John Simms (center) and coach Dick Logue (right).
All Star Awards presented to (top photo, from left): front -- Cheyenne Kio, Hannah Glover and Mercedes Shupe; back -- Kade Logue, Bryan Brooks, Patrick Valenti, Kal Logue, Caleb Nichols and Ben Simms. Erika Boucher and Taylor Causer were unable to attend.
Coaches noted that the girls' softball team for ages 9-10 placed second in Pa. District 15, while the 12-year-old team placed third. Also, the Potter McKean Little League baseball all-stars placed 3rd in District 15.
