Group plans trip to former brick works A local group devoted to history and family research will be exploring the remains of a brick factory in Cameron County on Saturday, March 31. Cameron County Genealogy Club members will hike into the former location of Calder Brick Works. Group leader Wendy Davis invites others to join the adventure. "This hike will be a great way to get some exercise, enjoy the onset of spring, and learn a little of Cameron County history," Davis said. Calder Brick Works started producing in 1896. The com- pany manufactured upwards of 10,000 clay bricks, from the Dent Runs area, each week. It ceased operations about 1919. Davis suggests wearing study hiking shoes, as well as being prepared for some rough terrain. Those interested should meet at 10:00 a.m. at the Barbara Brown Moscato Memorial Library in Emporium. Calder Brick Works stories, pictures, bricks or any brick with a unique history are welcome at a pre-hike meeting.
