Board lays groundwork for Moate Members of the Cameron County Board of Education show no signs of filling the superintendent of schools position any time soon, fueling speculation that the board intends to move Clyde Moate into the post as soon as he has received the necessary certification. Board members last week granted Moate's request to establish a new "dean of stu- dents and academics" position. As forecasted several weeks ago by one disgruntled board member, the directors also appointed elementary school guidance counselor Bill Floyd to the post. Moate, who is the elementary school principal, was named acting superintendent after Dr. Stephen Bugaj left the post last August. Moate gets an extra $100 per school day to serve in both capacities. After Bugaj's departure, the district advertised for candidates to fill the superintendent position. One board member said the search is essentially over, now that the interim arrangement with Moate has been extended to Dec. 31. |
