Fast Break girls learn basics

Fifth- and sixth-grade girls from Cameron County, playing under the team name "Fast Break," got some early exposure to basketball competition during the recently completed season.

The squad won three out of five games at its season-ending tournament in Belmont, N.Y. The previous weekend, Emporium placed second in a Port Allegany tournament, dropping the title game by just one point. Fast Break also placed second in a tournament at Bradford the previous weekend.

Earlier in the season, the girls participated in a competitive league sponsored by the Philipsburg YMCA. They finished the campaign with an overall record of 10-15.

Team members included Brittany Chmelar, Abby Etchepare, Sydney Knapp, Lucie Holjencin, Brooke Dunsmore, Alyssa Wykoff, Hayle Ramsey, Macy Guisto, Madison Rogers, Karen Flament, Kyra Azzato, Katie Brown, Serena Smoker and Breanna Whiting.
