Skate park meeting Saturday

Excitement is mounting as plans for the new Emporium Skate Park continue.

The park is still a work in progress and volunteers are needed. An important meeting will be held at 2:00 Saturday afternoon in Memorial Hall to continue the planning. Susie Gribble is encouraging anyone interested in the project to attend. She is available to answer questions at 486-0373.

Blueprint calls for a 100' by 100' park to be built at the South Park playground. A fund-raising campaign is now underway. The group has been approved for a $25,000 Community Development Block Grant. Another $9,600 must be raised as a matching share for a Pa. Dept. of Conservation and Natural Resources grant.

Cameron County Commissioners and Emporium Borough Council members are supportive.

Equipment will be chosen by those who will use the park. Last summer, some local skateboarders tested parks in Fox Township and Roulette to get a better idea of what's available.
