Robert Jordan Robert Orren Jordan, 86, of Smethport, died Friday (March 23, 2007) in Sena-Kean Manor, Smethport. He was born Feb. 14, 1921, in Mason Hill, a son of Ruben E. and Ellen E. Hicks Jordan.. He married Katherine Mary Cole on Nov. 5, 1949. Mr. Jordan was a graduate of Colegrove schools. He was in the U.S. Navy and served during WWII. Mr. Jordan was a machinist and tool and die maker. His employment started at GTE Sylvania in Emporium from 1939 to 1945. He was later employed by the Backus Co. of Smethport. In 1959, he and his brother Lester opened up the Robert Jordan Machine Shop in Betula, which he owned and operated until his illness. He was very active as a steam and gas engine hobbyist for many years and was a founding member of the Allegheny Mountain Engine and Implement Association. He was also active in the Tioga County Early Days Inc., of Wellsboro. He is survived by two sons, David Jordan of Smethport and Merle Steven Jordan of Weare, N.H.; two daughters, Shirley Vicere of Bradford and Donna Gigliotti of Bradford; four grandchildren; six great- grandchildren; and one brother, Lester Jordan of Smethport. In addition to his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by three brothers and one sister. Visitation was held at the Hartle-Tarbox Funeral Homes, Smethport. Burial was in Rose Hill Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the Hamlin Memorial Library, Smethport, or the Steam and Gas Engine Association. |
