There was snow on the ground and mud on the basepaths last weekend, but that didn't stop Coach Scott Andrews from putting his Coudersport High School softball team through a practice session at the school's parking lot. A few days later, thanks to sunny conditions and warmer temperatures, the Falcons were able to open their season with a non-league game at Kane, where the Wolves scored a 7-2 win. Coudersport's Jesse Davis got things rolling in the top of the first with an infield single. Kelly McVay boarded on an error and each came around to score. Kane answered with a pair of unearned runs and the hosts' pitcher, Kayla Schwartz, blanked the Falcons the rest of the way. Karli Duffee handled mound duties for Coudersport, allowing seven hits and striking out seven. In other softball openers this week, Cameron County traveled to Bradford and fell to the Owls, 15-0.
