'Down County' residents being recruited

An Elk County organization is recruiting residents of southern Cameron County to join in on two events in the coming weeks: the "100-Mile Yard Sale" and the Flower Garden Contest.

They're sponsored by the Quehanna Industrial Development Corp., based in Karthaus.

QIDC plans broad publicity to attract people to the yard sale, set for July 20-21. Participants will have their locations pinpointed on a map distributed to hundreds of people who are expected to be bargain-hunting that weekend.

Route for the yard sale promotion is roughly described by QIDC as Rt. 879 from Shawville through LeContes Mills, Frenchville, Keewaydin, Karthaus, Pottersdale, Sinnemahoning, Driftwood, Benezette and Medix.

The same route will be in place for the second annual Flower Garden Contest. Prizes will be awarded for the top entries, with judging to take place in late July.

Additional information on either event is available at (814) 263-4418.
