Trout stocking in Potter, Cameron counties

With the April 14 Pennsylvania trout season opener just a week away, the Pa. Fish and Boat Commission (PFBC) is winding down its preseason stocking activity.

This year's stocked trout are bigger. At the same time, PFBC has cut the number of trout to be stocked by about 20%.

Overall, there is about a 30% increase in the weight of these fish over last year's, and the average length is 11 inches, compared to 10 inches last year.

Volunteers are welcome to help with the stocking. Here's the local schedule:

Cameron County:

--Tuesday: Mix Run; meet at Medix Run Hotel at 11:00 a.m.

--Wednesday: Clear Creek; meet at Kettle Creek Lake at 11:00 a.m.

Potter County:

--Saturday: Pine Creek; meet at Galeton Centertown Park, noon.

--Wednesday: Kettle Creek, meet at Cross Fork Post Office, 10:00 a.m.

--Thursday: Genesee River/ Ludington Run, Middle Branch and West Branch; meet at Genesee Post Office, noon.

--Friday: Fishing Creek and South Woods Branch; meet at ABC Restaurant in Burtville, 9:00 a.m.
