Two of the area's top high school baseball teams slugged it out on a cold Tuesday afternoon in Ridgway, with the Cameron County Red Raiders prevailing, 4-3, to improve their record to 4-0 on the young season.
"It was nasty," said veteran Raider coach Dick Harrier, in reference to the cold, wet conditions for a game that went down to the wire.
Ridgway had the visitors on the ropes, carrying a 3-2 lead into the sixth inning, but Harrier's boys once again showed that they know how to win. The Raiders also benefitted from a throwing error in plating the tying and winning runs in the sixth.
Harrier sent junior Jordan Crane to the mound against a hard-hitting Elker lineup. He exited after four innings, with CCHS on top 2-1.
Ridgway took advantage of walks and a timely hit to go ahead by a run against reliever Cameron Clingan, who then shut down the Elkers over the final two frames.
"Jordan pitched well, especially under the cold conditions," Harrier said. "Then Cameron struggled at first, but he settled down and pitched real well."
Clingan, a junior, got the win to improve his record to 3-0.
Catcher David Lyon continued his torrid hitting with a double and a single. Sean McManigle also had a pair of hits.
Weather-permitting, the Raiders are scheduled to host Smethport on Friday, followed by a trip to Elk County Catholic on Monday.
