Bowling season winds down

Another successful schedule of league competition at Emporium's Mountain View Bowling Center is coming to a close.

Fran Vermillion, a consistent high scorer all season long, went out with a bang in the Ram & Ewe Mixed Couples League. She smashed a 614 set that included singles of 232 and 211 in Saturday's finale.

Oher top scores were by Jim McLeod (246-695), Gene Rebo (242-683), Joe Gibbs (256- 634), Dale Ludwig (247-614) and Deb Gabor (512).

Final league standings: Tigers 80-32, Wolverines 72-40, Chipmunks 64-48, Emus 62- 50, Crabs 60-52, Apes 60-52, Cockroaches 38-74.

The Men's Bucktail League also closed things out, with Austin Vets Club taking top honors with a 52-38 record. Northwest and Superior Tooling tied for second at 48-42. They were followed by Good Real Estate and Micron, each at 44-46; Emporium Carpet Cleaners (42-48), Lyon Trucking (42-48) and Burkhouse Contracting (40-50).

Top scores on the final night came from Bob Foster (229- 636), Al Lyon (226-620), Jim McLeod (221-605) and Dan Morton (245).

Paul Gabor finished with high average (207.2), followed by Foster (205.7), Dick Sebring (199.5), Ken Schuckers (196.1) and David Lyon (195.4).

Sunday Night Mixed bowlers also concluded their season last weekend. Al Lyon (185.6) and Bill Reed (183.6) had the top averages for the men, while Marlene McAulay (148.9) and Bev Farren (143.3) led the women.

Top scores on Sunday came from D. Crosby (165-437) and Mary Dobson (165-431) for the women; Paul Patton (197-549) and Lyon (235-546) for the men.

Froggers ran away with the league title with an 80-32 record. Pin Knockers and Dream Team tied for second at 68-44.

In Monday Men's Merchant action this week, Justin Bure had high set at 621. Jim McLeod (212-613) and Sam Artman (225-613) also posted honor series, while Al Lyon (237, 210) and Bob Foster (225) rolled honor games.
