Coudersport looks to rebound

Coudersport High School looks to turn around its varsity baseball season in time to carry some momentum into the District 9 playoffs.

The Falcons of second-year head coach Doug McClintic host Hornell, N.Y., on Saturday, followed by another home game on Monday against Johnsonburg. Depending on the Rams' rotation, the Falcon may miss the hard-throwing senior, Calvin Grumley, in Monday's game.

Last Friday, Coudersport (2- 3) lost a tough 3-2 decision before a large crowd at Kane's Pat Santilli Field. Wolves pitcher Zach Anderson relied heavily on off-speed selections to yield just four hits.

Coudersport drew first blood when Bret Metzger boarded on one error and ended up scoring on another. Kirk Duffee walked and scampered home on Isaac Cary's double in the third to make it 2-0.

Kane finally got to starter John Hau for a run in the bottom of the third. Brett Whitman relieved and closed down the hosts' uprising.

The Wolves tied the game 2- 2 in the fifth. They scored the clincher in the last of the sixth on a two-out bloop single, followed by a bases-loaded infield error. Coudersport threatened in the late innings, but Anderson rose to the occasion.
