CCHS softball team notches win

Cameron County notched its first varsity softball win of the season last Friday, beating the visiting Austin Panthers, 18-1.

Raider pitcher Danika Grom pitched a one-hitter and didn't walk a batter.

Diana Orner had a pair of triples among her three hits while Julia Glosek stroked two hits for the hosts. Austin's Dallas Niles spoiled Grom's nohitter bid.

On Monday, Kane (6-0) committed nine errors, but still held on to bear the visiting Red Raiders, 11-6. Grom left with an injury in the first inning and was replaced on the mound by Ashley Metcalf.

She only allowed five hits, but defensive lapses by the Raiders and some timely hitting by the Wolves gave the hosts a comfortable advantage after the CCHS went up 5-4 in the top of the fourth inning.
