Music, art in spotlight Saturday Visitors to the Maple Festival in Coudersport are encouraged to top off their Saturday with a stop at Ski Denton that evening for a combination of art and music in a coffeehouse-style setting. The monthly Songwriters Roundtable will be headlined by three recording artists: Carla Ulbrich and Joe Giacoio; Elgie's Kitchen and Jonathan Haley. It all gets underway with Mexican cuisine starting at 5:00 p.m., in recognition of Cinco de Mayo. The work of featured artisans Curt Weinhold and Doug Firestone will be on display. Weinhold is an accomplished photographer with special talents in wildlife and nature photography. Firestone is a skilled blacksmith. Music gets underway at 7:00. Carla Ulbrich is a selfdescribed "professional smart aleck," and generally keeps the audience in stitches on the way to delivering her very amusing songs. She's accompanied by Joe Giacoio, a talented songwriter and guitarist. Elgie's Kitchen is a Philadelphia-based acoustic trio featuring the guitar work and songwriting of Tim Laborie, the lapsteel and songwriting of Joel Hanna, and the mandolin and songwriting of Chuck McCaan. The influences of Bob Dylan, Woody Guthrie and Jerry Garcia are readily apparent in the band's music. Jonathan Haley, who will open the show, is a member of the musical Morley family of Potter County. In addition to his guitar work, singing voice and songwriting skills, Haley also impresses audiences with his spirit and dedication. The Songwriters Roundtable will again be hosted by the songwriting team of Eppie Bailey and Steve Quelet of Jakob's Hollow. Ski Denton is located along Rt. 6, between Coudersport and Galeton. |
