Wanna Be A Cowboy?
A rodeo cowboy passed through Cameron, Potter and McKean counties last week, traveling along Rt. 155 on a journey that he expects to last roughly seven years. Ezra Cooley, 27, started out in early April 2006 on horseback from Chico, Calif., with a goal of personal growth, and to become the first person to travel around the world on horseback. As he continued, Cooley discovered that many people wanted to support him financially. He decided to instead steer donations to the National Children's Cancer Society. He rides on "Red," while "Striker" carries his supplies. Cooley covers about 20 miles per day, changes his horses' shoes about every 1,100 miles, and forecasts his arrival in New York City sometime next month. He hopes to continue by ship to Europe and Africa after that. "I'm just a guy who rides a horse," Cooley said. "Sometimes, I don't know where I'm going until I make the next turn."
