Local EMS in spotlight May 20-26 Emergency Medical Services organizations in Potter County have scheduled several activities to mark National EMS Week (May 20-26). The observance honors EMS providers (paramedics, emergency medical technicians, first responders, fire fighters, and police) while, at the same time, raising public awareness about health and safety issues, including how to prevent injuries and what to do in a medical emergency. On Monday evening, May 21, there will be a CPR class at the Coudersport Volunteer Ambulance Assn. building on East Second Street. Early recognition of the signs of a heart attack and early intervention in the form of AED and CPR have been shown to be very valuable in the treatment of cardiac arrest. For a $5.00 fee, participants can learn these lifesaving techniques. Call 274-7411 to register by May 9. Wednesday, May 23, will be a day of programs at area schools. Fun and educational activities for the children will be led by local EMS volunteers, some of whom are still in school themselves. Saturday, May 26, is Potter County EMS Day. These events are sponsored by Coudersport Volunteer Ambulance and Coudersport Regional Advanced Life Support Services. It will include a skills competition seat inspection, health and safety information and a bicycle rodeo. The afternoon will include a cookout and talent show featuring amateur performers from county EMS services. Rural Fight Fighting A Rural Water Movement Training Class has been scheduled by Potter County Emergency Services for Saturday and Sunday, June 9- 10, from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. at the Shinglehouse Firehall. Certified instructor Jay Young will lead the session. Lunch will be provided. Registration is due by June 1 at 274-8900. |
