Potter County history classes offered For decades, Bob Currin has collected, archived and written the history of Potter County. Currin, a retired social studies teacher and school administrator, will share some of his findings during a six-part series of classes at the Potter County Historical Society museum in Coudersport, starting May 15. All classes will be held on Tuesday nights from 6:30 to 8:30. Cost is $10 per student. Additional family members may take the course for free. The initial class on May 15 will focus on pre-settlement and geography; the 1807 survey and watershed formation; glaciers; the Native American population and its relationship to early settlers, and the development of land companies. During the May 22 session, subjects will include early settlement activities (people and towns), routes for migration, continued settlement of each watershed and ghost towns. On June 5, the focus will be on the Free Soil movement, Civil War and Underground Railroad. Session four, on June 12, will cover logging acivities, from rafting and log driving to railroading and trucks. The June 19 class will spotlight the World War I and World War II eras, with ample time reserved for questions about Potter County's history. Finally, on June 26, Currin will guide a tour of the museum and answer additional questions.
