Raiders gearing up for title defense As the regular season winds down, the Cameron County Red Raiders are gearing up to defend their PIAA District 9 baseball championship. Coach Dick Harrier's squad (9-2) bounced back from an off-night against Oswayo Valley to dominate Port Allegany on Wednesday afternoon, 13-2. Junior pitcher Jordan Crane was one out away from polishing off a shutout when Mark Larson took` him deep with a runner aboard. Crane recorded the final out to give the Raiders a five-inning win under the 10-run run. Crane issued just three hits, struck out seven and benefited from strong defense. Cameron Clingan blasted a home run and finished with five RBI. He and David Lyon each had two hits. The Raiders benefited from five Gator errors. Cameron County was coming off a 12-2 defeat at Oswayo Valley on Monday. Junior pitcher Brandon Slater used a variety of off-speed selections to keep the Raider bats at bay. Sean McManigle had two of the visitors' four hits and an RBI. Clingan and Mike Baker shared mound duties for Cameron County. The Raiders return to action Monday at Smethport in a doubleheader that gets underway at 4:15. |
