Baseball players moving on!

Nearly 50 children from Austin, Emporium, Port Allegany, Shinglehouse and Coudersport participated in the regional Pitch, Hit and Run competition, sponsored by the Austin Baseball Association and held at the Gary Williams Memorial Baseball Fields in Austin..

Champions in each age group qualified for the Pitch, Hit & Run Sectionals, to be held at major league ballparks across the country. National finalists will earn a trip to AT&T Park in San Francisco for the Major League Baseball All-Star Game.

Overall winners from Austin who qualified for Sectionals include:

--Ages 7/8: Dylan Buchholz, first; Brian Shupe, second; Connor VanWhy, third.

--Ages 9/10: Trae Smith, first; Scott Furman, second; Mia Glover, third.

--Ages 11/12: Mitch Freeman, first; Devin Mason, second; Kade Logue, third.

--Ages 13/14: Alex Furman, first; Nick Long, second; Mike Miller, third.

Also qualifying for Sectionals based on individual events were: ages 7/8: Aaron Wolfinger, Ryan Gist, Ethan Vislay, Matthew Ehrensberger and Jillian Furman; ages 9/10: Bradley Green and Zack Reddick; ages 11/12: Kal Logue, Ben Ragosta, Bryan Brooks and Ethan Hite.
