Bicycle safety rodeo success

Children from the Emporium area learned about bicycle safety whle enjoying a fun time during last Saturday's Bike Rodeo at the Cameron County Christian Center.

PennDOT teamed with Endless Mountain Chapter of the Pa. Alliance of Bikers Aimed Toward Education to sponsor the event.

More than 30 children 12 and under learned the importance of wearing a helmet and safety checks. They also watched a video on rules of safe biking, participated in a bike safety course and received a bike driver's license.

Ida Reams, instructor from PennDOT, and ABATE leaders expressed their appreciation to the many people who made the event a success: Rev. Rock Pifer, wife Sherry and all their volunteers, providing refreshments and face painting; Gary Mitchell from Radio Station WLEM for the remote broadcast; Emporium Borough employees Frank Johnson and Annie Hnath, along with Pa. State Police from the Emporium barracks, who helped with safety inspections and education; and the Pa. Safe Kids Coalition, for providing safety helmets.
