Potter County history classes being offered

Retired educator Bob Currin has shared his knowledge and keen insights about Potter County history with thousands over the years. He's leading local history sessions on Tuesday nights in Coudersport.
For decades, Bob Currin has collected, archived and written the history of Potter County.

Currin, a retired social studies teacher and school administrator, is sharing some his findings during a series of classes being held at the Potter County Historical Society museum in Coudersport, starting May 15.

All classes will be held on Tuesday nights from 6:30 to 8:30. Cost is $10 per student. Additional family members may take the course for free.

During the May 22 session, subjects will include early settlement activities (people and towns), routes for migration, continued settlement of each watershed and ghost towns.

On June 5, the focus will be on the Free Soil movement, Civil War and Underground Railroad.

Currin will cover logging activities, from rafting and log driving to railroading and trucks, on June 12.

The June 19 class will spotlight the World War I and World War II eras, with ample time reserved for questions about Potter County's history.

Finally, on June 26, Currin will guide a tour of the museum and answer additional questions.
