'Saturday on the Square'

Music, food and a special NASCAR-based audience participation event will highlight "Saturday on the Square" in downtown Coudersport on July 21. The NASCAR Pit Stop Challenge will visit the courthouse square, allowing members of the public to test their skills in a simulated pit crew setting. Those who post the fastest times will earn prizes.

Music for Saturday on the Square will be provided by "Confluence," a mother/daughter combo featuring lively, toetapping music. Performers are Nadine Dyskant-Miller, and her mother, Barbara Dyskant on piano.

Nadine, 15, uses hardsoled shoes on a wooden footboard that creates a vibrant, pulsing rhythm while she plays her flute or whistle. Confluence plays selections ranging from contemporary songs to waltzes, reels and high-energy jigs. Performances are scheduled for 11:30 a.m. and 1:30 p.m.

Saturday on the Square is a project of the Coudersport Area Chamber of Commerce Merchants Group. Vendors will open at 9:00 a.m. and remain in operation until 3:00 p.m.

Any business or individual willing to donate a quality item or two to support the cause (no clothing, please) is asked to call Sharon at 274-8360, Stan at 274-9102, or Gale at 274-0626. Committee members are available to pick up items for sale in the Coudersport area.

Also on July 21, the Potter County Farmers Market will be in operation on the west end of the courthouse square.

The final Saturday on the Square event of the season will be held on Aug. 18.
