The former Stoltz Motors building on the Sizerville Road near Emporium will soon be teeming with activity once again, creating 16 jobs initially with more likely to follow.
Design Metal Plating (DMP) closed on the property in late April, purchasing it from Stoltz Realty Partnership for $376,000. DMP, a novel business to the area, plans to open on Aug. 1.
Renovations are underway and machinery has been steadily filtering into the oncevacant building.
The business will provide services for local powdered metal plants, including resin impregnation, grit blasting, baking for hydrogen embrittlement and several plating options.
Plant Manager Earl Cherry explains that resin impregnation is a process that fills pores and cracks in powdered metal products. Grit blasting is for cleaning and deburring parts. Baking for hydrogen embrittlement strengthens or hardens parts.
As the name implies, plating will also be a large part of this business. Two types will be offered by DMP: barrel plating and rack plating. The plating process consists of a large array of chemicals with zinc being the main ingredient. Zinc plating can be clear, black, gold, and olive drab.
Several people have already been hired as DMP continues to fill its first 16 jobs, but there are still some openings. Those seeking employment can apply through Pa. CareerLink on Chestnut Street in Emporium, across from the Memorial Hall Recreation Center. If things go well, the DMP workforce could swell to 50 over by next summer.
DMP qualified for a $100,000 low-interest loan from the Cameron County Industrial Development Authority.
A separate Stoltz property that was once part of the car dealership, the former sales office in the highway's east side, was purchased by the state to expand the Elk State Forest District headquarters.
